1. How do I dispose of my fire extinguisher?

Fully discharge your extinguisher into your outside trash can and place empty extinguisher in trash can. Do not discharge the extinguisher inside your residence.

2. Does the Fire Department accept medications or syringes?

The Fire Department does not accept either; however, the Police Department has a medication disposal box in the rotunda of the Highland Village City Hall which is open 24/7. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality provides more information on disposal of used syringes. 

3. Does the Fire Department charge to review fire suppression or fire alarm plans?

There is no charge for the Highland Village Fire Marshal to review plans.

4. Does the fire department require an inspection application or charge an inspection fee?

The Fire Department does not charge for fire inspections and does not have an application; however, the Building Inspections Department for the City of Highland Village could require a permit. Please visit their webpage on permit requirements. Permit Requirements

5. Can I have my child’s birthday party at the fire station?

Unfortunately, the Highland Village Fire Department does not have space available to hold birthday parties at the station; however, you can request the fire engine make an appearance at your child’s party by filling out our request form. For more information, visit our Station Tours page.

6. Can I have my blood pressure checked at the fire station?

Yes, the Highland Village Fire Department offers this free service to all residents. Feel free to stop by the station and, as long as the personnel are not out on an emergency call, they can assist you.

7. Is it okay to have a camp fire in my backyard or while camping?

Camp fires on residential properties are illegal; however, commercial fire pits and chimineas are acceptable. Camp fires at Pilot Knoll are acceptable under safe conditions and special considerations can be made for special events by the Fire Marshal.

8. What should I do with old oil, gas or oil/gas mixtures?

The Fire Department does not have disposal methods for these. Contact Community Waste Disposal at 972-392-9300 for more information on their HHW services.

9. I have not received my ambulance bill. How can I check on the status?

The Highland Village Fire Department uses Emergicon as a third party billing service provider. For patient billing questions you can contact their offices at 1-877-602-2060.

10. How do I find out more information on commercial fire ordinances in effect for the City of Highland Village?

The City’s Code of Ordinances is updated periodically. If an ordinance has been approved but not yet codified you can visit the city website's Code of Ordinances page. Code of Ordinances

11. My smoke alarm or carbon monoxide detector is going off but I do not see or smell anything suspicious. What should I do?

You should exit your home and then call 9-1-1 from your cell or a neighbor’s home so that our personnel can come out and inspect your home. Carbon monoxide is an invisible and odorless gas which can only be detected by special monitors. It is better safe than sorry!
