Overview
The Municipal Court has jurisdiction over juveniles (16 years or younger) charged with Class C misdemeanors.
Appearing in Court
All juveniles are required to appear in open court for all proceedings in their case. The Court will schedule a court date and notify you within ten days of your citation. If you do not receive notification within this time frame, please contact the Court at (972) 317-3660.
The parent of a juvenile charged in the Municipal Court must be present in Court with their child. Parents may be summoned if they do not accompany the juvenile.
Failure to Appear (FTA)
Juveniles who fail to appear in court may have an additional Failure to Appear (FTA) charge filed against them. Juveniles who fail to appear or who fail to pay their fine will be reported to the Department of Public Safety to suspend or deny issuance of a driver’s license. Juveniles who disobey a court order may be found in contempt and assessed a fine not to exceed $500, or referred to Juvenile Court for contempt.
