Highland Village is ranked as the #3 safest city in Texas by the National Council for Home Safety and Security. This ranking is in large part due to the Community Policing Model employed by the Highland Village Police Department, which is used as a model by cities all over the country. All the actions of the HVPD are directed at making Highland Village a safe and enjoyable place to live where citizens and visitors feel that they are partners with the Police Department and that they can come to us with any question, concern, or issue. The primary purpose of this partnership is to prevent criminal and safety related problems from occurring. Cities were ranked based on the number of reported violent crimes and property crimes per 1,000 people. These variables were then weighted, with violent crimes accounting for 1.5 of the total (due to their severity) than property crimes.
