Property engraving or "Operation Identification" is a crime prevention program which involves the marking of property with an identifying number as a means of discouraging burglary and theft. The citizen uses an electric engraving pen or some type of etching tool to mark their Driver's License Number on the property. This allows law enforcement to quickly and positively identify your property should it be lost or stolen. After marking your property, HVPD recommends you make a list and keep a copy in a safe place. These actions make your property difficult for a burglar to dispose of or re-sell.
